Workshop on work in Metro Cities
A workshop was organized bt JIH Markaz at Hyderabad to evolve the strategy for work in Metro Cities. The workshop was attended by Naib Ameer Mr. Mohammed Jafar, Secretary General Nusrat Ali, a few members of Markazi Majlis-e-Shura, Zonal Presidents, City Presidents and representatives of big cities. Representatives of a few non metro cities were also invited.
 
Inaugurating the session, the General Secretary Mr. Nusrat Ali elaborated the significance of and distinct features of urban areas. He said “with the rising urbanization, the big cities are evolving as prominent political, cultural and educational centres”. He emphasized that in cities the society had plural character and diversified social composition, and that while planning for urban areas we needed to focus on some distinctive problems of these places. Enlisting these distinctive features he discussed about time constraints, problems of giving due attention to children and family, difficulties in making people gather for social events, etc. He stressed the need to study the strategies of other contemporary movements.
 
In the second session, presentations were given regarding the work status in selected seven cities. Delhi, Chennai, Coacin, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Vijayawada and Nanded were covered. While in the third session work status in Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad was reviewed in detail. Mr. Syed Hasan (Mumbai), Dr, Saad Belgami (Bangalore) and Dr. Khalid Zafar (Hyderabad) gave presentations about the work in the respective cities that was followed by debate and discussions.
 
The third session was devoted to the study of other contemporary movements. Dr. Shakeel Ahmed of Ahmedabad Gujarat presented a comprehensive analysis of RSS and its work, Mr. V. M. Ibrahim Executive Editor Madhyamam discussed about the communist movements while Mr. Abdul Jabbar Siddiquie of Hyderabad elaborated the work and strategies of Dalit Movements.
 
 On the second day, Mr. Sadatullah Husaini Member Markazi Majlis-e-Shura presented a paper on “Mass penetration in Cities”. He elaborated six key strategic issues viz. ensuring the visibility, identifying the target groups, designing the stratified strategies, focusing on objectives, employing the entertainment, and making use of technology.  He laid emphasis on the need to have visible institutions, civil society participation, prominent events etc. He also identified some key social strata that could return good results.
 
Another member of Markazi Majlis-e-Shura Mr. H. Abdul Raqeeb gave a presentation on Mass Media and Public Relation work in metro cities. He put forth several suggestions like  employing advanced PR tools, preparing sophisticated PR material like presentations and  leaflets, preparing and maintaining a database of contacts and documentations etc.  
 
Paper of Mr. Syed Ghulam Akbar Secretary JIH on “Human Resource Development in big Cities” was read by another secretary JIH Mr. Abdul Basit Anwar. He pointed to the grave scarcity of human resources and low workers to members ratio in many cities. He pointed that there were three steps of HRD viz. to discover the inner potentials of workers, making optimum use of their inner potentials and to promote the environment of trust, openness, and cooperation. He also emphasized the need to balance the expansion and consolidation works.
 
Member of Central Shura Mr. S. Ameenul Hasan talked on Dawah strategies in metro cities. He gave an account of the distinct features of big cities and referring to the strategies adopted by prophets, he talked about the importance of current issues and knowledge and expertise in dawah. He claimed that many prophets like Ibrahim, Musa (AS) etc. worked in the important metros of their time so their strategies should be carefuuly studies. Referring to the strategies adopted by Ibraheem (AS) he stressed the need to have separate strategies for separate social classes.
 
Naib Ameer Jananb Mohammed Jafar spoke on “Tarbiyah and Organisation in metro Cities.” He raised several distinct tarbiyah issues of urban areas and underlined the need to evolve workable strategies for them. He highlighted the need for employing mass media including TV channels for Tarbiyah, using electronic means for Trabiyah courses, arranging family meetings, establishing family counseling centres and Dar-ul-Qadha, He reminded the need of exemplary character, struggle and discipline for carrying out work in urban areas. Referring to the experiences in different cities, he stressed the need of mass contact and dawah and said that mere social service and institutional work with out mass contact could never make people come to tahreek.
 
Each speech was followed by discussions and debated and finally a whole session was allocated for debates. Participants participated in the discussions and added several useful proposals.
 
Concluding the session, General Secretary Mr. Nusrat Ali put the accent on the need to carry on the discussion and evolve effective strategies. He announced the constitution of a group under the convenership of Mr. Sadatullah Husaini to prepare the detail plan in the light of the discussions of the workshop. Other members of group are, Dr. Mohammed Rafat (Delhi), Mr. Nazar Mohammed Madu (Mumbai), Dr. Saad Belgami (Banglaore) and Mr. I.Karimullah (Chennai).
