Jamaat releases Book for NGOs working for minorities

New Delhi: Jamaat today released a book to guide NGOs working for the minority community. The book will help them run their programmes effectively with active aid from the government and other funding agencies.

The book, 'A Guide to Uplift Minorities', an initiative of the Social Service Wing of JIH, released here by former Chief Justice of India A M Ahmadi.

Giving a brief introduction of the book, Abdur Rashid Aghwan, who compiled the book, said, "after the recommendations submitted by Justice Sachar Report there was an ardent need to work for the upliftment of minorities in NGOs sector and according to Deputy Speaker of Rajya Sabha K Rahman Khan that only 1% of NGOs are belonged to Muslims."

The book, divided into seven chapters, has detailed information about how to make or register an NGO, how to run it and how monetary aids can be obtained. Besides, it contains information about NGOs, minorities' schemes, general schemes and the schemes which are offered by international agencies. The lengthiest chapter of this book has details about 29 schemes of government granted for minorities and 53 general schemes which minorities can take benefits from.

President of JIH Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari lauding the efforts made by the publisher and author, said that monitories should be made aware about the schemes and aids provided by the various organisations and the government. "Islam asks its followers to uplift weaker sections of the society and in this regard Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) has said, "Those who show compassion with poor and needy, Allah also does compassion with them." Maulana Umari said social services shouldn't be done just for personal gains as Islam educates that service should be done with selfless intention. "Islam wants to see every person of the society as economically independent and it is the responsibility of others to make so those who are not. Islam also educates that any person, Muslim or non-Muslim, should be aided if he or she is needy," he added.

Maulana Umari said those who are working for the uplift of weaker sections of the society are "doing Jihad in the way of God." He also asserted that JIH is not doing social service for personal gains, it is our religious duty."

Presiding over the ceremony Justice A. M. Ahmadi said use of the word minorities in the title of the book denotes that we hesitate or fear using the word Muslim minority. No other minority other than Muslims in India special programmes for upliftment and development. Christians, Parsis and Sikhs are much ahead of Muslims.

He suggested that the phrase Muslim minority upliftment should be used explicitly and clearly as used in the Sachar Committee Report.

Justice Ahmadi emphasised the need to establish educational institutions in large numbers. He also put emphasis on utilization of female population which is almost 50% of human resources of the society.

While proposing vote of thanks Vice President of JIH Prof K Siddique Hassan said, "This is the first step towards social service and minorities upliftment, we have prepared 10 years plan with the name of 'Vision 2016' and we would establish around one thousand education institutions across the country."
